
SEREMBAN: Perodua has opened a plant here which will will make automatic and manual gearboxes as well as other parts.
Perodua said the RM200mil Akashi Kikai Industry (M) Sdn Bhd is the country’s most advanced automatic transmission plant. The plant in Sendayan TechValley covers 13,000 square metres and production capacity is 200,000 units per year.
Perodua chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said the plant would be working flat out to meet Perodua’s target to hit a new sales record of 208,000 vehicles.
Perodua president and CEO Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said that Akashi Kikai Industry (M) plant is an important milestone for Perodua’s five-year strategic roadmap to become more competitive.
He expressed hope that more local vendors would be given a chance by Daihatsu and Akashi Kikai Industry to participate in future models.
Akashi-Kikai Industry shareholders comprised Japan-based Akashi-Kikai Industry co Ltd 51%, Daihatsu Motor Corporation Sdn Bhd 39% and Perodua 10%.
The plant was opened on Wednesday by Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
