The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California, is one of the most famous car exhibits in the world. However, the LA institution isn’t the biggest or most exclusive museum in the world. Instead, it makes its name with near-priceless world-class cars and a stunning structure. Better yet, the Petersen is stuffed with hypercars and supercars, like the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport and the Koenigsegg One:1.

How many cars are in the Petersen museum?

The cavernous Petersen Automotive Museum can display over 400 cars at a time and exhibits like “Hypercars 2: The Allure of the Extreme.” Still, it’s more than cutting-edge supercars and hypercars; the museum has exhibitions like a film and TV exhibit featuring a series of timeless Hollywood classics. Of course, many fans of speed and excess will find it difficult to pay mind to anything other than the outlandish hypercars of the museum’s exhibition.

However, if the stunning cars occupying the general showcases aren’t enough for you, the Petersen maintains a vault with fantastic cars from throughout history. According to the museum, the vault houses over 250 vehicles, from a cartoonish Round Door Rolls Royce to classic Shelbys.

What cars are in the Petersen museum?

The hypercars of the Petersen Automotive Museum are wild, out-of-this-world works of automotive art. For instance, we caught up with the venerable Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. The Pur Sport is an iteration of the over-engineered, record-smashing Bugatti hypercar lineup. However, if you’re sick of Bugatti brutes, the exhibition features a Koenigsegg One:1. While that may seem like a crazy name, it’s a reference to its one horsepower per kilogram power-to-weight ratio.

Furthermore, the Koenigsegg Regera “Gotham” edition is a sight to behold with its copious carbon fiber and 1,500-horsepower hybrid powertrain. The Gotham is aptly monikered, as it looks like something from the Bruce Wayne collection. In addition to Koenigseggs, a Porsche 918 Spyder, several ultra-rare Ferraris, Paganis, McLarens, and even a Hennessey Venom F5 call the museum home.

How big is Petersen Automotive Museum?

The Petersen Automotive Museum is over 100,000 square feet of space in LA. That makes sense; monstrous space is required to showcase hundreds of timeless cars. In fact, the museum takes up an entire city block on Fairfax Avenue.

How long does it take to go through the Petersen Automotive Museum?

According to TripSavvy, it takes about three hours to pay the epic LA museum the attention it deserves. You’ll be glad you spent the time, too. It’s not every day that car enthusiasts get to see a $3 million Lamborghini Sian or a $2,670,000 Apollo Intensa Emozione. Of course, if hypercars aren’t your thing, you might be better off checking out some of the museum’s more unorthodox residents, like a Delorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future or even Lightning McQueen from the Cars franchise.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is worth a pilgrimage for every car fan. Keep up with MotorBiscuit for the latest automotive news and content!
