revealed: 2021 mercedes-benz e-class facelift india launch on march 16!

The current iteration of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class landed in India back in 2017. Featured exclusively in its long-wheelbase form, the E-Class is one of the most successful cars in its segment. But as it is in most cases, the outgoing avatar of the E-Class has already been superseded by a facelifted version on global markets. That doesn’t lend a very good look for Mercedes-Benz as India has been an important market for the E. In fact, India was the first right-hand-drive country where the E-Class long-wheelbase is both built and sold locally. Such is the demand for this mid-size luxury sedan that the German automaker has been inundated with customer inquiries regarding the 2021 facelifted model.

So, Mercedes-Benz decided that it will prepone the India launch of the 2021 E-Class by quite some margin. In this case, the posh marque has announced that it will be launching the 2021 E-Class facelift on March 16. At first, Mercedes-Benz was to bring the new model to India only in the second half of 2021.

In order to create the long-wheelbase version, engineers have essentially welded 140mm ‘more car’ between the front and rear axles. This has increased the wheelbase from 2,939mm in the standard-wheelbase model to 3,079mm in the long-wheelbase one. And since the E-Class sold in India has almost always been bought by those who have a chauffeur, the long-wheelbase model is absolutely market-friendly in its appeal.

Just like the all-new C-Class, the facelifted E-Class has had its styling tweaked by quite a bit. Following the brand’s latest design language, the 2021 E-Class gets a revised front-end that features new and sleeker LED headlamps and a redesigned chrome-garnished grille sporting a large Mercedes-Benz logo. Furthermore, changes have been made to the front and rear bumpers, with the latter featuring fake exhaust tips.

The rear of the 2021 E-Class also sports sleeker LED tail lamps – similar to those seen in the new C-Class and S-Class. Along the sides, not much has changed between the pre-facelift and facelifted models. However, Mercedes may offer customers some new designs for the alloy wheels alongside a few new exterior colors.

The interior of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift looks beautiful and sophisticated. While it may not be of the latest design (seen on the new S-Class), this is still a luxurious and comfortable cabin. Having said that, the two 10.25-inch displays continue to take center-stage as they not only look good but are also sharp and well-calibrated. Still, the overall design of this cabin isn’t as up-to-date and fantastical as you’d see in the all-new C-Class. Mercedes-Benz has updated the steering wheel for the 2021 E-Class, so it now sports capacitive-touch controls along with a new three-spoke design. Adding more glamor to the interior is the 64-color LED mood lighting and the upgraded MBUX infotainment system.

Unlike the outgoing car’s dated system, the newer MBUX interface in the 2021 E-Class brings about several new features. There is connected car tech plus Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, while the whole user-interface feels more modern and responsive compared to the old one. Some of the other features that can be expected in the facelifted E-Class include a split-sunroof, a rear-seat entertainment system, wireless charging, and a Burmester audio system. Apart from these, there will be tri-zone climate control, power-operated, ventilated & massaging front seats, rear USB charging ports, cruise control, and automatic LED headlamps.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift will come with at least two engine options. One of these would be a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol in the E200 with 194hp and 320Nm of torque, whilst the E220d will get a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel with 192hp and 400Nm of torque. Then again, Mercedes could also bring the E350d which gets a 3.0-liter straight-six turbo-diesel engine that makes 282hp and 600Nm of peak torque.

However, all engines will come paired to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and drive the rear wheels, only. The facelifted E-Class will certainly cost more than its pre-facelift iteration, but it will continue to rival the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, and Volvo S90.
