Sony PlayStation PC launcher might be in the works after reference to it showed up in the code of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

The Japanese game publisher has been slowly entering the world of PC games. But this time, the development of a PC launcher is likely in progress after Sony’s latest PC offering hinted at it.

Sony PlayStation PC Launcher

A news story by PC Gamer reports that Sony has been expanding the PC ports of its massive PlayStation exclusive titles these days.

It includes the action-adventure game God of War and the action role-playing title Horizon Zero Dawn. Not to mention that the hit action-adventure, Uncharted, is also gearing up for its PC release.

And now, Sony is likely to expand its presence in the growing world of PC gaming.

The latest PC game of Sony, Marvel’s Spider-Man, references something called “PlayStation PC launcher,” hidden in one of the countless files of the gaming title.

PlayStation PC Launcher: What to Expect?

PC Gamer notes that the ports of former PlayStation exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn are currently available in the Epic Games Store and Steam.

Sony’s Playstation 5 logo is seen at an electronics store in Tokyo on November 10, 2020, ahead of the gaming console’s release scheduled for November 12.

However, now that Sony is highly likely to be working on its PC launcher, it might go the same route as other game publishers like Ubisoft and Blizzard Activision, according to a recent report by Engadget.

The tech news outlet further highlights that the PlayStation PC launcher reference comes shortly after reports hint Sony might be planning to introduce PlayStation Network integration to its PC ports.

It is still unclear how Sony plans to go about with its PC launcher.

It is worth noting as well that the Japanese tech giant has yet to formally confirm that it is indeed working on it.

And as such, it remains to be seen if the PlayStation maker would make its PC offerings exclusive to its launcher. If so, it means that games like God of War are leaving the online storefront of Epic Games and Steam.

Engadget adds in its report that publishers like Blizzard only offer their gaming titles exclusively on its PC launcher that goes by the name Battle.Net.

But on the other hand, the maker of the phenomenal GTA franchise, Rockstar, still lets gamers access their games on other platforms like the Epic Games Store and Steam. However, its PC launcher is required before the installation of the game proceeds.

All that said, the potential PC launch of Sony is highly likely to follow either of these two routes.

It might make its games like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered exclusively available to the launcher. But it could also go the other way, wherein we could still see PlayStation games on Steam and Epic Games Store.
