tesla is opening its 4th austin, tx showroom

Tesla is opening its fourth showroom in Austin, Texas according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The construction is expected to begin on September 26, 2022, and if all goes to plan, it will be completed by February 28, 2023.

The new Tesla showroom will be located at 2323 Ridgepoint Drive and Tesla plans to spend $1,500,000 renovating the one-story, 51,975 square-foot space. According to the filing, the space will be for auto sales, delivery, and vehicle service which will require some modifications to the exterior building. A utility upgrade will be under a separate permit by the owner of the property.

Boyd Watterson Asset Management, a Chicago-based firm, is listed as the owner of the site. Tesla plans to use another Illinois-based firm, Chipman Design Architecture, to design the building.

The new showroom could be seen as an indicator of Tesla’s commitment to its 1,000-vehicle-per-week goal. During Tesla’s Q2 2022 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk set this goal and said that Tesla would hopefully achieve this in the coming months. Giga Berlin achieved this milestone in June and soon Giga Texas will do the same.

“So also making good progress with production ramp with Berlin. We achieved an important milestone of 1,000 cars a week in June. And we’re expecting — sorry, our Giga Texas to exceed the 1,000-vehicle per week milestone and hopefully in the next few months,” Elon Musk said.

The Tesla Model Y has been high in demand and Elon Musk pointed out that demand was definitely not an issue.

“Well, right now, our problem is very much production. As anyone can tell if they order our car, you order Model Y, it’ll arrive sometime next year. So this is clearly not an issue for many months for us. Our problem is overwhelmingly that of production.”

Ezra Dyer: Legend Race Cars May Look Goofy But They're Serious Fun

From the October 2022 issue of Car and Driver. Ignore the goofy body. The Legend car looks the way it does—like a nitromethane Shriner fever dream—because that’s the basic shape of a human sitting upright behind a motorcycle engine. Thus the bodywork takes the form of a 1930s Ford or ...
