The proliferation of electric cars in the market will surely turn out some duds. Thus far, the booming EV industry provides us with a new and interesting way to enjoy driving, but are there are few cars you need to think twice about before buying? Possibly, and with that said, these are the five most overrated electric cars in the market today.

The Mini Cooper SE is a seriously overrated electric car

Mini Cooper SE Electric | Mini

Even though you’ll only spend about $31,000 to buy this electric Mini Cooper (a relative bargain in the EV market), it’s not worth the price. The style is cool, unique, and will draw you in, but you’ll feel like you’re back in the 1950s. Why? Because the Cooper SE has a driving range of 110 miles on a good day. That won’t get you very far at all.

Nissan should consider retiring the Leaf name

2023 Nissan LEAF | Nissan

Like many firsts in any market, the Nissan Leaf has pretty much run its course. The most popular electric car in the world should probably be gone from the market. The driving range is limited to 150 miles, which isn’t enough. The Leaf is now a little more expensive than the Chevy Bolt, and the Bolt offers 259 miles on a single charge.

The BMW iX is missing one important thing

The 2022 BMW iX | BMW

The BMW iX looks cool, has room for five people, and is priced accordingly at $83,200 to start. Something is missing, which is truly a glaring omission. This electric SUV does not have enough storage. BMW doesn’t offer a roof carrier or a frunk in the iX. The roof carrier, we can understand, but please, we need the frunk.

Is the Porsche Taycan competitive among sporty electric cars?

The Porsche Taycan is a tough nut to crack. This car is outselling the 911 for the Porsche brand right now, which makes it a success. However, the maximum driving range of 212 miles doesn’t compete with the Tesla Model S; it doesn’t even come close. If you want an exciting EV to drive, the Taycan is a great option, but be wary of the limited driving range.

Volkswagen should have done better with the ID.4

Volkswagen ID.4 | Volkswagen

The list of reasons the Volkswagen ID.4 is the most overrated electric car is pretty long. To give you a few of the items, the exterior is underwhelming, the infotainment system is terrible, and the handling is lackluster at best. For $41,000, you should get a lot more from your EV than what the VW ID.4 offers.

What are three disadvantages of electric cars?

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV rear 3/4 at a public charging station | Matthew Skwarczek, MotorBiscuit

With more EVs hitting the market, we’re learning more about these vehicles and how to drive them. Regardless of how range-conscious a person is, they still face these three things with an EV:

  • Fewer public charging stations compared to gas stations
  • Charging takes a lot longer, even with faster charging times
  • Higher initial purchase cost

How long do electric cars last?

We don’t have a solid answer to this question yet, but studies show that EVs could last between 10 and 20 years. Some companies, such as Audi, have explored ways the batteries from electric cars can be used once they are no longer capable of operating a car’s drive system.

How long does it take to charge an electric car?

Most electric vehicles in 2022 offer some fast charging capability, which can put a percentage of the driving range into a vehicle in 30 minutes or less. Using a Level 2 charging system, charging at home typically takes overnight or between seven and nine hours.
