Ford Ranger Raptor who?

We're quite lucky to finally get access to some cool Japanese vehicles like the Toyota GR Supra and 86 and Nissan's Z, but we don't get everything that's available. Certain cars simply won't be as popular here as they are in other markets, so local executives simply pass on them. One such vehicle is the Toyota Hilux, a scaled-down Toyota Tacoma that is very similar to the Ford Ranger. We've seen various special editions of this truck, but none have borne the GR Sport moniker – until now. The Hilux GR Sport has just been revealed in Japan sporting a stylish look and some subtle upgrades.

From the outside, the Hilux GR Sport boasts wider body-color arch flares around the wheels, increasing total width by 45 millimeters. A new front bumper features too, as does a new grille with a GR badge and a 'TOYOTA' script. Various gloss and matte black accents help add sportiness to the truck, from the mirror caps to the arch accents and the 18-inch wheels. The rear bumper is black too, as are the side steps. Behind those new alloy wheels, you'll find red calipers up front, although the rear retains drum brakes. Unsurprisingly, no performance upgrades have been made beside a new suspension tune that “improves steering response” for “flat and comfortable driving.”

Speaking of comfort, the interior sports a power-adjustable driver's seat and leather upholstery, along with various visual enhancements. These include a GR steering wheel with a red 12 o'clock stripe, unique cluster dials, and red contrast stitching throughout the cabin. Aluminum sports pedals are also thrown in, as are a GR-branded start button and key fob and a set of metallic paddle-shift levers. An eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display is fitted too, with the entire package likely to cost the equivalent of around $50,000. There's no word on whether this JDM vehicle will make its way to other markets, but you can bet that America won't be one of them if it does.
