It beat some monstrously fast vehicles.

You’ll probably never see the 1,489-hp Koenigsegg Regera on the street. They cost millions of dollars and it’s not like CEO Christian von Koenigsegg is building a ton these things (all 80 have been sold). So, when we get to see one in video getting busy on the track, we always take notice. This one is from Ring Knutstorp, a hilariously named racetrack in Kagerod, Sweden.

As a refresher, the Regera comes with a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and three electric motors. In addition to all that power, buyers get 1,475 lb-ft of torque, a 0-60 mph time of less than 3 seconds and a top speed of 255 mph. In fact, the Regera holds the world record for going 0-249-0 mph. It took the vehicle 36.44 seconds.

In this clip Koenigsegg, the man, is with the Koenigsegg car, as well as one of his test drivers. He mentions that the Knutstorp is seen as a mini Nurburgring, with a lot of undulation and sweeping curves. He says it’s not a high-speed track, but more of a handling exercise. When talking about the Regera, every course is a handling course.

And every course is a chance to break a world record. The 1.29-mile, 14-turn track has seen several impressive lap times from the likes of the McLaren Senna, the Caterham R500 and BAC Mono. The Regera took them all down with a time of 1 minute, 3.84 seconds.

Koenigsegg notes that the Regera is its grand touring car, “with more creature comforts” than the rest of its lineup. It even comes with Apple CarPlay! He also notes that after 30 or 40 laps the tires are worn evenly. In fact, the last 30 seconds of the video is the pit crew taking tire temperatures, which you need to do immediately after leaving the track for a proper reading.

On track, the Regera looks surprisingly easy to drive. There aren't a bunch of mid-corner corrections or early braking events. It has a single-speed, direct-drive transmission, so we don't even hear or see any gaps in power. But it sounds strikingly like an American 5.0-liter V8, except for the turbo woosh. It's a short lap, so turn your sound up.
