Xpeng Motors plans to launch two new models and expand the line-up to six electric vehicles in 2023. One of the launches will be a mid-size SUV reportedly called Xpeng G5 (codename: Xpeng F30), a potential Tesla Model Y rival that could also arrive in Europe by 2024.

Design

Road-testing of the five-seat electric SUV is underway, spy images from China have revealed. The upcoming model has a signature ‘X Robot’ face for a minimalist look. Slim DRLs separately mounted on the top, a covered, smooth nose section, and raked A-pillars, are evidently visible.

The design of the side profile resulting from the curvy greenhouse and sloping roofline makes the G5 reminiscent of the Tesla Model Y. However, the rear-end appears to be relatively upright, meaning the G5 won’t look anything like a sedan. Flush-fitting door handles are seen in early test mules, but they’ll likely be pull-type units, and not electronically-operated.

Specifications

Xpeng Motors is developing new ‘F’ and ‘H’ platforms and they will be the third generation of the company’s platforms, He Xiaopeng, the company’s co-founder, Chairman, and CEO, said during its Q3 2022 earnings conference call on November 30, 2022. According to a report Yiche published on October 23, 2022, the F30/G5 will sit on the F platform, measuring around 4.7 m (185.0 in.) long. There’s no word on the performance, energy efficiency, or range aspects. Xpeng Motors could target a CLTC range of at least 650 km (404 miles) to stay with the competition.

Price & Release date

Xiaopeng said during Xpeng Motors’ Q3 2022 earnings conference call that the company expects to launch a B-class, mid-size SUV in mid-2023. It’s safe to assume he was referring to the rumored Xpeng G5. Xiaopeng said the prices of the company’s fifth model will range between CNY 200,000 (USD 28,771) and CNY 300,000 (USD 43,156). The Tesla Model Y starts at CNY 288,900 (USD 41,559) and touches CNY 397,900 (USD 57,239).

TopElectricSUV says

A sleek electric mid-size SUV priced more affordably than the Tesla Model Y and with similar comfort, convenience, and driver assistance features, the Xpeng G5 is aiming to become a popular choice among global buyers.
